Smile Plastics is a collection of recycled sheet material, developed by Smile Materials, made from 100% plastic waste such as as PET plastic bottles, chopping boards and packaging material. Smile Plastics offers 20 types across three materials: polystyrene (HIPS), PET, and polyethylene (HDPE).
The inspiration for Grey Mist came from a walk in the hills of Wales – a rainy, grey world, beautiful in its simplicity. It is a colour that complements virtually anything without fading into the background.
Marlais captures the rich texture of reeds and bulrushes along the Welsh riverbanks, layered over weathered pebbles. With a neutral mix of blue and organic tones, it is a subtle, refined choice that adds character to any interior. Small adjustments, such as enhancing the colors or softening the flecks, can easily be made to suit your needs.
As its name suggests, Spectra is an illuminating product in every sense of the word. Made out of PET packaging waste with elements of Kaleido, the colourful energetic fragments of Spectra’s previous life form the core of this design.
Moss reflects the serene beauty of a misty forest, with green tones and subtle golden accents that create a soft play of texture and depth. It brings the calm of nature into any interior. Small adjustments, such as deepening the greens or adding subtle golden highlights, can easily be tailored to your needs.
A Black Dapple sheet contains approximately 100 to 150 cutting boards. This beauty resembles a marble cross-section, with an intense black color contrasting with white veins. The strong contrast in the pattern gives Dapple a vibrant personality, reminiscent of the many years of natural and human processes the material has undergone.
Aber reflects the winding rivers of Wales in a deep blue surface with subtle sandy accents. The dynamic pattern evokes wild, rushing water and is ideal for commercial interiors. Small adjustments, such as enhancing the colors or softening the flecks, can easily be tailored to your needs.
The new Limestone personifies the cool, soothing properties of natural stone, with a refined beauty that evokes the rugged rocks on remote mountain peaks. Inspired by the Welsh countryside, Limestone features subtle grey/pink tones with white accents, making it a dynamic choice for various interiors.
Seastone evokes the crashing sea along the Welsh coastline, with fresh blue and green tones and subtle flecks that resemble boats bobbing on the waves. The veined surface adds character and depth to commercial interiors. Small adjustments, such as emphasizing colors or softening flecks, can easily be tailored to your needs.
The Cosmos panel combines monochrome with brilliant colour speckles. It is created by combining a pigmented PET plastic packaging base with a touch of Kaleido speckles. The playful appearance of Cosmos is reminiscent of a painting, with splashes and blobs of bold colours reflecting the energetic creative process.
Flint is the first true black material from Smile Plastics. It is robust and nature-inspired, with a stone-like texture that reveals a new look in the light. Minimalist and powerful. Small adjustments, such as accentuating tones or highlighting texture, can easily be tailored to your needs.
Heron Chestnut is a panel with subtle red and brown tones, lightly seasoned. A touch of grey and warm ochre joins this blend of hues, all harmoniously coming together in this enticing material. Heron Chestnut features a warmer colour palette than the originally neutral base of Heron’s material mix.
Heron Marine Blue is a panel with an airy, cool-toned aqua colour, with undulating nuances of blue, reflecting a fresh coastal breeze. With its varied colour palette, consisting of fantastic speckles of ochre, maritime azure, and pearlescent white, potential waste is transformed into a surface resembling the treasure of Triton’s depths.
Heron in Fir Green draws inspiration from nature, with earthy khaki, muted sage, warm ochre, and pebble grey. Despite the distant origins of discarded kitchen appliances, they are given new life through innovation, inspired by the tranquillity and beauty of nature. This provides a practical solution for comfortable interiors.
With an earthy warmth, Heron radiates in Butterscotch with a colourful palette of brown tones, terracotta, and soft apricots, filled with lively undertones of orange. Like the hues found in refined, sandblasted marble, this sun-kissed combination is guaranteed to brighten interiors.
Brecon material features a speckled base palette of gold, light grey, and white, emitting a soothing, natural aesthetic that subtly recalls the outdoors and guides thoughts to the gentle reed beds along the riverbank of the Severn.
Kaleido is a colourful panel made entirely from between 650 and 2500 PET bottles, depending on the thickness. This material has an extremely good fire rating (B2 according to the European standard EN13501), making it the only plastic that may be used in public spaces, such as airports. Kaleido is hard and rigid and completely moisture- and weatherproof.
The deep, earthy tones of Mawn evoke memories of the Welsh countryside’s peatlands. Made from 100% recycled plastic, Mawn is designed to seamlessly fit into any commercial interior design, invoking the tranquillity and comfort of nature.
Charcoal is made out of PET packaging material and is deep black with white flecks. Charcoal shares the same properties as Kaleido because it is made from the same material. Both types are highly suitable for tabletops and worktops, bar and counter fronts, furniture and splashbacks.
A deep red hue sets the tone for Quarry, with a visual appearance that lies somewhere between lava and volcanic sediment, reminiscent of the seawater-soaked beach at Black Rock Sands. Lighter speckles of past material life shine through for extra impact.
Ocean is a translucent panel in the Classic Collection and, like Charcoal, is made from recycled packaging materials. Ocean is a beautiful, deep-blue panel with small, coloured speckles; hence its name. Ocean has a wider range of applications because it can also be used in areas such as lighting, translucent partitions and furniture.
The Slate design is inspired by the slate mines and caves of the Welsh landscape. It offers a deep moss green palette with subtle white flecks. The dynamic texture effect is formed by the unique material mix.
Alba is a white, marble-like panel with golden and silver flecks formed by the foil from yoghurt pots. Alba is rigid enough to be used as tabletops, furniture or in structures. The material is moisture-proof and reasonably scratch-resistant. Caution: because HIPS is a flammable material, it must be kept far away from naked flames.
Design is not black and white. And neither is Heron Duo. While a monochromatic palette forms the base, this new material features subtle glimmers of dynamic grey and pearl tones, with unexpected accents of rich ochre, creating a truly unique colour palette that reveals something new with every glance. Heron Duo is the result of combining discarded black plant pots and white goods, an innovative twist on the material.
The coloured Orca panels remind many people of a cross-section through cabbage, or of marble. They are made out of chopping boards and packaging materials. This is a food-grade material and therefore safe for use with foodstuffs. Orca panels are highly suitable for tabletops and worktops, bar and counter fronts and furniture.
With luxurious shades of brilliant pink and glistening white, Rose Dapple is a refined addition to our Dapple collection. Made from chopping boards and plastic packaging, it has been transformed into a durable surface ideal for commercial interiors. Like a rose, it is a limited-edition material, available for a short time only.
Heron is a laminated panel in light grey tones with hints of yellow and black. The Heron blend with its unique, aesthetic colour palette will remind you more of the stately bird after which the design is named, than of its actual origins.

All Smile Plastics types are rigid, moisture-proof and weatherproof, recyclable and made entirely out of recycled waste. Smile Plastics panels are not food-safe as standard, even if the plastic used to produce them is. We can test the panels batch by batch to obtain a food grade certificate. Fire certification will depend on which material is used. For example, polystyrene (PS) is a flammable material and therefore needs to be kept far away from naked flames. By comparison, PET plastic does not easily combust and is therefore has a Bs1d0 fire rating according to NEN-EN 3501.
Pyrasied has all types of Smile Plastics collection in stock as standard in thicknesses of 12 and 20 mm. The types we stock are Kaleido, Alba, Grey Mist, Charcoal, Orca, Spectra, Heron and Ocean. The sheet material is available up to a size of 3000 x 1200 mm. Only full plates of Smile Plastics can be ordered from Pyrasied. However, we can cut the plates into smaller sizes if required. We will deliver the residual waste with your order. Pyrasied can also process the panels to create the finished product. Smile Plastics is a semi-finished sheet material that always requires post-purchase processing.
The panels are produced by compressing plastic waste under high temperatures. Due to the manufacturing process, the individual panels vary in pattern and colour. Smile Plastics tries to press the sheets so they come out free of blemishes and little dents; however, minor imperfections are part of this manufacturing process and are considered a natural feature. For example, some Black and Blue Dapple panels may have yellow flecks.
Smile Plastics material is easy to saw, mill, drill and sand. The panels cannot be laser cut. The PET and polystyrene types can easily be bent and bonded. By contrast, HDPE is very difficult to bend and bond, but this can be solved by screwing the plates together. Any scratches can be sanded and buffed out. The Dapple types are made from HDPE plastic. This material is therefore not suitable for the laser machine and it cannot be bonded. The material is also difficult to reshape.
These panels require little maintenance. Dirt and stains can easily be removed with a mild detergent and warm water. The material is quite soft, so do not use any abrasive cleaning agents. Acetone, paint stripper and some cleaning agents have an adverse effect on HIPS and PET panels. Scratches in the material can be removed by light sanding with the right grade of sandpaper. Do not use spatulas as they can scratch. The Alba (HIPS) panel incorporates metal foil and these speckles can be loosened by excessive rubbing of the surface or through the use of abrasives.
