Traditionally, behavioural studies shed light on the main style trends for the coming year. This year is no exception! The experts at Pantone have proclaimed Viva Magenta (PANTONE 18-1750) to be the 2023 colour of the year.
‘In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real,’ explains Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. ‘PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.’
The 2023 colour of the year vibrates with vim and vigour. It is also brave, fearless, powerful, humorous and inclusive. It is a vibrant new red that exudes pure joy and encourages unbridled self-expression. ‘A sign of new strength for the year ahead. Joyous and free; exactly what we need in the world.’
Viva Magenta is described as a hybrid colour spanning the physical and the virtual worlds. It opens doors to Pantone’s ‘Magentaverse’ project. This collaboration with Artechouse presents immersive spaces, inspired by Viva Magenta.
For over two decades, the Pantone Color Institute has announced its colour of the year annually. Pantone elevates a colour to industry fame. The chosen colours of the year influence trends, product development and purchase decisions in diverse sectors, including fashion, industrial design and product packaging.
