The Milan Design Week 2025, held from April 7 to 13, was one of the most stunning editions so far. The city was transformed into an artistic hotspot where design, art, and innovation came together. With Salone del Mobile as the beating heart and countless installations spread across Milan and its surroundings, designers, interior brands, and creative minds explored the future of design. Themes like connectivity, sustainability, and sensory experiences took center stage. The Milan Design Week has firmly established itself as the most important event in the world of design, architecture, and interior decoration. It serves as the ideal platform for product launches, brand initiatives, and the place where important discussions about the future of design emerge and resonate.

Materials from Pyrasied were also featured at the event, and we kept a close eye on all innovations. In this blog, we share the five trends that stood out to us during Milan Design Week 2025.

1. Design as a connector: “Mondi Connessi”

The central theme of the Fuorisalone – Mondi Connessi (Connected Worlds) – emphasized how design builds relationships between humans, nature, and technology. From interactive installations to AI-created art, designers explored how physical and digital worlds can integrate. This theme made us reflect on how design is connected to various aspects of life, from nature to advanced technologies and cultural traditions.

2. Circular material usage

Sustainability was not only a theme but also a cornerstone. Materials like recycled marble powder, bioplastics, and sustainable sheet materials, such as Durat Plus, were central. Key materials included recycled marble dust, bioplastics, and eco-friendly sheets like Durat Plus. The “Porta dei Colori” installation by Durat was a highlight, featuring colorful objects made from up to 80% recycled content. This innovative approach to circular design emphasized Durat’s commitment to integrating sustainable materials into modern design pieces. Durat remains a pioneer in eco-friendly materials and is exclusively available in the Netherlands through Pyrasied.

3. Mirrors as a connecting element

During Milan Design Week 2025, mirrors played a prominent and symbolic role in various exhibitions. A remarkable example was “Quilted Mirror Objects,” an installation by Dutch design studio Mo man tai. Inspired by meticulous technique, “Quilted Mirror Objects” transformed leftover acrylic mirrors from Pyrasied into vibrant geometric compositions that play with light, texture and colour. Founders Ulrike Jurklies and Paul Bas have a strong focus on sustainability, proven in this work with the use of leftover materials. This installation poetically embodied the central theme of the week, “Connected Worlds,” where the relationship between humans, nature, and technology was key.

The piece combined innovative materials and techniques into a tactile and reflective experience. Acrylic mirrors from Pyrasied played a key role, creating a sense of space while highlighting the theme of connectivity and self-reflection in our increasingly digital world.

4. Crossovers between fashion and furniture design

There were many collaborations between fashion and furniture brands at Milan Design Week 2025. One of the most talked-about collaborations was the JS.Thonet collection, where Jil Sander and Thonet presented a minimalist reinterpretation of classic tubular chairs from the 1920s. This collaboration showcased how fashion and furniture design can enhance each other and explore new aesthetic directions.

5. Light as experience and emotion

Light was presented as a powerful tool to convey atmosphere and emotion.

Euroluce is a leading exhibition during MDW2025, dedicated specifically to lighting design. Here, brands such as Vibia, Preciosa, and KDLN showcased how lighting can contribute to layered, sensory experiences that blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Masterly – The best of dutch design under one roof

Masterly, the Dutch pavilion at Milan Design Week, presented an impressive collection of over one hundred Dutch designers and companies at Palazzo Giureconsulti, right next to the Duomo. The pavilion showcased a wide range of design works, from architects and furniture designers to artists and craftsmen. The “Roots” exhibition, curated by Simone van Es, won the Masterly Milano Award 2025. This exhibition brought together well-known names and emerging talent around themes of tradition, sustainability, and craftsmanship, with participants such as Ineke Hans, Piet Hein Eek, and Dirk van der Kooij. This year also saw the introduction of the Young Talent Award, which went to Josja Boting for her lamp, inspired by the organic forms of Jugendstil.
