Sustainability and luxury on the highway

Fastned is known as a pioneer in the world of electric charging infrastructure. Now, they are setting a new standard in Belgium: the largest and most luxurious charging stations yet. Desarc, in collaboration with partners including Stapelbroek and Pyrasied, designed parts of the first location. With a total area of an impressive 8,000 m², this site is more than just a place to charge your car. It offers a completely new experience for anyone needing a pit stop on the road: from holidaymakers and families to business travelers. Whether you want to quickly open your laptop, enjoy a good coffee or sandwich, or let your children run around outside, both the car and its passengers leave fully recharged.

The challenge

The charging station needed to be more than just practical: it should invite visitors to step out of their cars. With healthy sandwiches and salads, fresh coffee, and smoothies. Offering both a lounge area and ample workspaces.
The architecture had to be open and clear, with plenty of light, natural materials, and warm earthy tones. At the same time, the interior had to be sustainable, low-maintenance, and extremely durable, designed for intensive use day and night.

The solution

For the interior and the counters, the solid surface material from the Dutch brand Marlan was chosen. In collaboration with Pyrasied, a unique colour combination was developed for Fastned. The material, used in counters, reception areas, and sanitary facilities, needed to be both aesthetically pleasing and functional. A fully custom-made design was created in Fastned’s signature colors: yellow, green, and black.

Additionally, the material had to meet several criteria:

Sustainability
Materials that reflect Fastned’s vision and integrate seamlessly with the rest of the building, which is fully electric, zero-emission, with a green roof and underground water purification.
Identity
Fastned’s distinctive yellow accents are subtly incorporated into the counters, ensuring the brand identity is present throughout.
Future-proof
Durable enough for intensive use day and night, in a space that welcomes thousands of visitors every week.

The result

The new Belgian locations are Fastned’s largest and most luxurious charging stations to date. In addition to a restaurant with an open kitchen and a 24/7 self-service shop, facilities include a children’s playground, showers, and a green environment. Together, they create an inspiring stopover where sustainability, hospitality, and luxury go hand in hand.
With more than 380 charging stations now and the ambition to grow to 1,000 locations, this renewed design could serve as a blueprint for the future of Fastned: a sustainable, welcoming, and luxurious experience for everyone on the road.
